1992: University degree in Physics (grade 100/110) at the University of Palermo, Italy. Title of the dissertation: “Pietro Tacchini (1838-1905): a first scientific biography”. Supervisor: Prof. Giorgia Foderà, associate professor of History of Astronomy.

 

1993-94: Teaching Physics in some senior secondary schools in Palermo.

 

1994: One-year scholarship from the Palermo University for specialization at the Observatoire de Paris, working on the archives of the “Carte du Ciel” (19th-20th centuries).

 

1995: Ten-months fellowship from the Italian National Research Council (C.N.R.) at the Osservatorio Astronomico di Palermo “G. S. Vaiana” working on the development of the astrophysics in Italy in the second half of 19th century.

 

1996: Position of Curator of the Museum of Astronomy at the Osservatorio Astronomico di Palermo “G. S. Vaiana”, working on 19th century astronomical instruments.

 

1997: Three-months post-doctoral grant (“poste rouge”) from CRHST (Centre de Recherche en Histoire des Sciences et des Techniques) at La Villette (Paris) working on the 19th-20th centuries archives of Paris Observatory.

 

2000: Secretary of the DHS-IUHPS Commission for the History of Astronomy (replaced in 2001 by ICHA – see below).

 

2001-2010: Member of the Italian Astronomical Society (SAIt) Council.

 

2001-2003: Editor of the IAU-IUHPS Inter-Union Commission for History of Astronomy (ICHA) Newsletter.

 

2002-2008: In charge of the Public Outreach Activities at INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Palermo

 

2003 until now: Member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Commission 41 (History of Astronomy) ‘Archives’ Working Group.

 

2003-2004: One-year contract for teaching History of Astronomy at the Palermo University, Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, first degree course in Physics.

 

2004 until now: Position of Research astronomer at the INAF/Osservatorio Astronomico di Palermo, in charge of the museum activities.

 

2004-2005: One-year contract for teaching History of Astronomy at the Palermo University, Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, first degree course in Mathematics and Computering for Scientific Communication.

 

2005-2009: In charge of the INAF Museums Service.

 

2006-2012: Chair of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Commission 41 (History of Astronomy) ‘Archives’ Working Group.

 

2011-2012: Three-months grant for Visiting Researcher at the Science Museum in London, working on early solar physics observatories equipment.
