EWOCS ongoing project: Simulating MIRI images

EWOCS has been awarded with 20.1 hours of observations with JWST with NIRCAM and MIRI. Our capability of extracting faint sources in the cluster core from MIRI images may be hampered by two factors: source confusions and a bright background produced by the wind emitted by some dust-producing massive stars. It is thus mandatory to study how this could impact the science we expect to do with MIRI data.
This will be studied by simulating NIRCAM and MIRI observations using a specific tool developed by JWST team (Mirage/MIRSim) and models developed with Python.
